Spiced Winter Sangria
The hugely popular Eu Christmas Markets are not happening this year for obvious reasons...which also means no Glühwein to sip on these cold winter evenings 😐... But, here is a quick and easy Spiced Winter Sangria recipe you will equally love, this holiday season ❤!
Ingredients
1) 750 ml bottle of red wine (dry preferably) like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Tempranillo
2) Brandy - half cup
3) 1 cup - orange juice (freshly squeezed)
4) 1 lemon
5) red/green apple , pear or 1 cup pomegranate seeds.
6)for syrup - 4 whole black peppercorns, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 clove , 1 staranise, 1 cup water
7) 2 tablespoons agave nectar (or half cup sugar)
Recipe
1) for the syrup - bring 1 cup water to boil (if adding sugar, you can add now), add 1 cinnamon stick , 1 clove and 1 staranise and 4 black peppercorns, let it simmer for 5 mins before you switch the stove off and let it cool to room temperature.
2) Now remove all the whole spices, add 2 tablespoons of agave and stir well and reserve this spice syrup.
3) In a tall jar add 750 ml red wine, brandy half cup, freshly squeezed orange juice 1 cup and the spice syrup and stir well.
4) Refrigerate this for atleast 2 hours.
5) lastly squeeze in half of the lemon juice and cut the other half into slices and drop it in the jar and stir well. Also, do not forget to add pieces of red/green apples, pear or pomegranate seeds.
6) You can serve it cold or let it sit on the counter top for a bit to get it back to room temperature before you serve.... Its winter after all 🤷🏽♀!
P.S if you like fizz add ginger ale or carbonated water... I do not like it , hence skipped.
