Charcuterie Board

Charcuterie Board

In the near post-covid world, something as innocent as blowing candles out on our birthday cakes... or sharing a charcuterie board at a house party will be frowned upon! (think about it...sad, but true!)

Keeping this in mind, when we had a few guests over this weekend, I put together smaller, individual charcuterie boards for each couple to share ..and it was well received as being thoughtful...

How to build a Charcuterie Board?

Firstly choose any board from the following

- wooden board which is not very porous
- a marble slab or granite slab
- a beautiful metal tray (silver/steel/bronze)

Secondly we need to choose atleast 1 type of cheese from each category below

1) Soft Cheese - like Goat Cheese, Brie or Camembert
2) Firm Cheese - like Edam, Manchego or Parmigiano-Reggiano
3) Aged cheese - like aged Cheddar, Gruyere or Gouda
4) Blue Cheese - Stilton, Gorgonzola or Roquefort

Place the cheese on the board such that you can easily differentiate between different cheeses and build around each of them as well.

Now you can start placing fresh fruits, around soft cheese (green apple, berries, pineapple, oranges go great) and a drizzle of honey or fruit preserve will go well with it.

Next you can place some olives, pickled capers and toasted bread or breadsticks closer to blue cheese.

Cold meats, nuts (almonds, walnuts), crackers go well with aged cheese and firm cheese.

You can use dried dates, figs to cover any blank space on the board.

For a pop of colour use fresh grapes or place some rockets or fresh herb!

You can get creative and include dips like hummus, jam, peanut butter with veggies like capsicum slices, cucumber, celery carrot sticks... The list and possiblities are endless !!
