Protein Balls

As promised in my previous post I'm back with the recipe for the milk solids that's left behind after making ghee.

This is the milk solids left behind after making ghee 

Although this recipe is enhanced with the addition of the ghee residue, it is not made solely when we make ghee. These laddoos are a part of our heirloom made everytime you want to nourish your loved ones a little more... Like during their exams, that time of the month, postpartum care or even to recoup after a long illness like a viral fever and help in restoring their health back.

Ragi/finger millet is a gluten-free whole grain which is very popular in India for it's various health benefits. It is rich in calcium, amino acids, Vit D and good carbs. Please do check the internet for more information. You can find ragi flour in any Indian stores with ease.




Recipe :

1) remove the curry leaves from the ghee residue (you can add the leaves to your chutney pudi)
2) in the same pan which has the ghee residue add 2 cups of ragi flour,  2 tablespoons of ghee and on slow flame roast the flour
3) keep stirring continuously, in about 20-25 minutes, the nutty aroma of the flour and ghee will fill your home
4) add half teaspoon of cardamon powder , handful of roasted nuts (cashews, almonds or any you have handy) and 1 cup of powdered jaggery ( gud/gur) and switch the stove off
5) once this cools down a little, add another 2 tablespoons of ghee mix well. Smear your hands with a little ghee and make the laddoos.
6) your nutritionous protein balls are ready! They are gluten free, rich in calcium and amino acids and are great for your health. The times when you do not have ghee residue, you simply follow the same recipe but add additional ghee instead.

My kids love this and they think it's made of chocolate... whatever floats their boat I guess 🤷!
